Contemplation in Ink wash : My art and La Seine

The Seine is an important source of inspiration for me. Whenever I can, I take a walk and pass by La Seine. It brings together all the inspiring elements: light, air, birds and animals’ songs, greenery, land, sky, and more. I capture these moments and transform them into my monochrome ink wash work (or sometimes oil painting), inviting contemplation and imagination.

Inspired by the Seine's diverse moods, natural textures, and air, my work embodies philosophies such as wabi-sabi (侘寂), ma (間), Dao (道), and wu wei (无为). These concepts are essential to my creative process and shape my approach to capturing the essence of nature and the moment, aligning with the idea of Impressionism, which seeks to capture the impressions of light and the moment.

My artistic journey began at a young age with various styles and creative methods, but my encounter with traditional Chinese ink wash, or Sumi-e, transformed my perspective. This method emphasizes simplicity and precision, where every stroke is permanent and each 'mistake' becomes part of the piece. It reflects wabi-sabi, embracing natural imperfection.

The process of my painting is meditative, a dialogue between the artist, the ink, and the paper. The fluidity of each line, splash, or stroke mirrors the philosophies I draw from. Dao emphasizes living in harmony with the natural flow of the universe, while wu wei encourages effortless action. These principles guide my hand as I create, allowing the ink to move naturally and form its own path.

In my artworks, these principles allow the ink and elements to place themselves naturally and form their own paths. I focus on the contemplative and purist aspects of this technique, highlighting the beauty of simplicity.

I explore abstract forms, minimal compositions, Chinese calligraphy, and natural elements like herbarium.

This approach connects not only with Zen, Chinese, and Japanese aesthetics but also with my personal philosophy and roots.
